Amber grew up watching her father tattoo in the kitchen for many years until he opened what would be one of the first tattoo and piercing studios in the area and stayed in business for almost 20 years. The Looking Glass in Bonita Springs FL. Everyday after school Amber would go to the shop, where her dad would tattoo along with one other artist. She would do her homework and draw for the rest of the night until her father was done. She was an artist but had no interest in becoming a tattoo artist, it was not appealing since she had been forced to be around it all her life. She was a troubled kid who rebelled and used substances at any chance she had, causing her to spiral into a dangerous drug filled lifestyle that was destroying everything around her. At age 15 she told her father she knew college was not for her so he didn’t have to save up his money to put her in college. Her father was very busy at the studio and worked long hours pleasing the demand of the people that wanted good art in a good atmosphere. The only thing her father could offer was a career in tattooing, so he did what was best for everyone (the shop and Amber) He had her spread the word that she would be doing free tattoos and the word spread fast. In that time (2000) people were not as educated in tattooing as an art so they lined up out the door to get there free tattoo from the 15 year old. Now this is obviously not recommended, at all …ever, but Amber did free tattoos for about two weeks until they were good enough to charge and so it began.
From that time she struggled with addiction and spending time in and out of jail, this made the first 10 years of her tattooing and piercing career a learning experience to say the least. She also had 2 sons in the midst of it all as well. In the last 8 years of her career she got sober and took over her dads small old school style tattoo shop. Soon she sold the name and signed a contract to work for the new owner, in a bigger and better location. In that she learned that not all people are as they say, the new owner was all about money and often changed things to make more money even when it put the client out. The new owner did not understand that the way the shop was ran was why it was successful, its as simple as… you don’t buy a restaurant and change the menu. People like the way it is so don’t change it. Amber broke her contract, loosing money just to keep a sane mind. The shop that was successful for almost 20 years was closed down in less than a year after the new owners took over.
Now with almost 9 years clean Amber and her husband Joe are raising her 3 boys, and running a rapidly growing tattoo and piercing studio. She does all of the advertising and customer service work herself. Seeing the new way of the industry and adapting to it as it changes is a key ingredient to success but not the only one. Amber has taken her many years of experience combined with the mentorship of all the different successful people she has learned from, to run her new studio 4 years in and keeping some of the old traditions has proven to work. Running a shop with 5 artists and suppling all that is one time use to them can be a lot to do on a daily basis. Their studio is not a run yourself type of business, its a  well oiled machine. Through certain practices old and new she has figured out how to have a team like atmosphere, where everyone works together. Everyone in the studio is personable and never rude, the studio is immaculate in cleanliness and style. The positive vibes along with the down to earth people make simply going to In Living Color Studio a great experience. Being Tattooed there is a privilege if your trying to come as a walk in, the walk ins alone keep some of the artists tattooing all year long without feeling the effects of season. Amber was able to achieve this all organically without spending money on ads or websites. Facebook and Instagram has served as the most profitable way to grow their business.

Amber had different mentors, some in business, people skills along with tattoo artists and a couple self-made multimillionaires. Everybody knows if you want to do something in life you just have to find someone who has already done it or has it, follow what they did and get what they got. Plus the 18 years in the industry, her knowledge and expertise really show when it comes to solving a problem, and thats one thing she loves most is helping people. Her vision for the tattoo industry is one of more positivity and growth, helping people in ways that effect the industry as a whole. To address all the other aspects of the tattoo industry, a tattoo artist's job is demanding and can be dark and depressing. When you tattoo just to pay the bills and your never doing tattoos you want cause you don't have the time to draw them, thats no life. And as a tattoo artist your life is your work, your an artist. Through mentorship and her systems she hopes to help shop owners and artists make more money, keep clients, and over all have a better life.
